Which of the following would take a lot of time and effort to create and set up?

a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
f)
g)
a) Online tutorial - Yes definitely. It can take a lot of time. The text of an online tutorial needs to be adapted specially for the online medium, and a good tutorial should include interactive elements such as questions, and multimedia, all of which can take time to create. Furthermore creation of online tutorials is normally a collaborative process between subject specialists, designers and technical people, which adds to the time and effort involved. a) Online tutorial - This can actually take a lot of time. They need to be fair, clear and unambiguous, without giving away the correct answer. However, once you have a good bank of questions there can be significant time savings compared to face to face assessment. From a technical point of view it is not very time-consuming to set up and administer online assessments. b) Online assessment - Incorrect. From a technical point of view it is a trivial matter to set up a discussion board. What might take more time is to decide how to use it - what do you want people to do there. Also, if you decide to moderate the board yourself and join in the interaction you can find yourself spending a lot of time online reading and replying to postings. c) Discussion Board - No. From a technical point of view it is a trivial matter to set up a discussion board. Most simulations require some programming of rules into the system which requires technical skill and time in designing the rules. d) Simulations - Incorrect. This depends but most simulations will require programming of rules into the system which requires technical skill and time in designing the rules. e) Online surveys - Not really - most online survey systems make it quick and easy to set up online questionnaires. However, it is not so easy to write a good questionnaire that will provide you with the answers you are looking for and that will be clear and unambiguous to your respondents. Again it is the design process that takes the time. e) Online surveys - That's right. Most online survey systems make it quick and easy to set up online questionnaires. Of course if you get really keen then you could spend a lot of time writing your Blog, but the initial set up time is minimal. f) Blog - That's right. All you have to do then is synchronise the video with your slides. However if you want to edit the presentation this can add a lot to the set up time. g) Multimedia presentation - Actually it is possible to do this quite quickly if you simply video record yourself giving a lecture.
